IELTS WRITING TASK 2

These days there’s no need to go to live performances (e.g. shows or concerts) because what we can see on TV or computer screen is better.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

In today's digital age, many believe that attending live performances is no longer necessary, as high-quality shows and concerts can be easily viewed on television or online. While this view is reasonable to an extent, I disagree that it fully replaces the unique experience of enjoying the shows in person.

On the one hand, technological advancements have made it extremely convenient for people to enjoy performances from the comfort of their homes. With modern TVs offering high-quality sound and visuals, viewers can comfortably enjoy concerts, plays, and other events at home anytime, without the need to travel or pay for expensive tickets. For instance, Taylor Swift's concert film allowed fans worldwide to enjoy her show without spending hundreds of dollars on stadium or flight tickets. Moreover, in today’s fast-paced and busy working culture, people are given fewer days off. Therefore, being able to set aside enough time and money to attend concerts has become something of a luxury that not many can afford, which explains why enjoying shows at home becomes a more time-saving and affordable option for entertainment.

However, attending a live concert offers fans an emotional connection and vibrant atmosphere that screens cannot fully replicate. In particular, live shows often foster a strong sense of community and fulfillment, as both artists and fans come together to share the moment. The energy of a cheering crowd, the thrill of being part of a real-time event, and the direct interaction between performers and audience all contribute to an unforgettable experience. For instance, BTS concerts are often described by fans as deeply moving due to the shared energy and emotional engagement throughout the show. Furthermore, elaborate stage setups and stunning lighting effects enhance the performance, adding to the intensity and visual impact. The global success of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, drawing millions of fans to venues across countries, highlights the enduring appeal and unique value of live performances.

In conclusion, although recorded performances offer comfort and convenience, live events deliver emotional and social value that cannot be replaced by technology. Both formats serve different needs, but attending performances in person remains a meaningful experience for many.
