WRITING TASK 2: ESSAY 4
You should spend about 40 minutes on
this task.
Write about the following topic:
Some people believe that a
college or university education should be available to all students. Others
believe that higher education should be available only to good students.
Discuss these views. Which view do you agree with? Explain why.
Write at least 250 words.
It's widely believed that all students should be able to study
in college or university. However, others are of the opinion that only good
students should be taken a college or university education. It is a topic which
is arousing more and more controversy. As far as I am concerned, I’m in favor
of the first viewpoint. And my reason will be given out in this essay.
First of all,
it can be said with certainty that it is very difficult to define the meaning
of good students. What standard should we use to discriminate between a good
and a not so good student? It is not an easy issue. And even if a standard
would be made to distinguish between bad and good students by their school
result or school attendance as the way we always did, but should we, somehow, attach
to some 18years-old students’ mind that they are not good and that is why they
couldn’t enroll college or university. This negative thinking could be
transmuted into the feelings of inferiority.
Second of all,
a special consideration in this case is that being good a student in high
school doesn’t ensure that you will be a good student in college or university.
The basis is probably because students shouldn’t be judged if they are a good
or bad student by the time they are 18 (before enroll in the university). There
are many cases that students, they showed their special ability or talent after
they get into the college or university. For instance, a student who studied in
a bad condition high school where he was bullied so he even can’t protect himself
but studying. And because of that he would has been judged as a not good
student and not be able to be in college. That would bring him a devastating
effect on metal growth.
Those who
disagree, on the other hand, point out that there are a couple of shortcomings.
Obviously, good students seem to have better potential. But it doesn’t mean
society should shut the door to a better future and not giving “not so good
students” a chance to try better.
From what have
been mentioned above, we reach to a conclusion that students who have done
their best in school by the time before getting in college or university is not
good students and they seem not to have as much as ability or potential as good
students but they can be transform into better people after they get into the
university. Therefore, we have a reason to believe that all students should be
able to attend college or university education.
